Catblack … I predict that you will create much better work than this if you keep at it …. I pride myself on spotting talent.

Good one, dave. So rich in details and textures and tones. Love the vague background that adds so much depth to this drawing. A stunning beauty!

Well I wasn’t around when you submitted this first time. Just shows you how clueless most viewers are, if they passed over this beauty, without even bothering to comment.
You know I love Thomas Hair watecolours from the 1830’s. This has the same flavour for me. You could add gentle watercolour washes (to a print of this, using canvas print paper) to try a fresh style to it.

  • BLYTHART replied

Firstly Colin … where would I find pictures by Thomas Hair?
Secondly … I have a few prints of this (I used to sell them) and I might try what you suggest. I fancy trying line and wash and even bought an instruction book. I also fancy trying A3 size, as I always use A4. Thanks for your encouragement and advice … it is appreciated.

Not interested? They must have been blind, or stupid, or both. This is totally wonderful, your detail is amazing, the B&W glorious. i love this!!!!!!

  • BLYTHART replied

I had to have plenty detail in as it is a historic record, so I did lots of measuring and it took almost twelve hours altogether.

Now see.. you got me beat there! I rarely do scenes especially with buildings in them. This is really excellent work.. much better than I could ever do!!

  • BLYTHART replied

I think you have more talent in your fingernails than I have in my whole body … but thank you for the compliment.

I do have an idea why this hasn’t had the feedback you expected, and it is this. The majority of the young and trendy redbubblers probably think it’s ‘old fashioned’?, but like many, are narrow minded in their tastes and/or knowledge of art appreciation. This is charming, and demonstrates great skill and attention to detail. It’s wonderful.

  • BLYTHART replied

Thanks for that Andrea. In fairness I think I will alter the description, because since putting it back in the portfolio it has had 26 comments, 8 featurings and 319 viewings, so that’s better than a kick in the teeth isn’t it. Years ago, when I had copies printed to sell in a local shop I sold 129 prints, 16 of those being framed ones. Not one of my big sellers, but it pleases me to know that it is on the wall in sixteen homes somewhere. My best seller in Blyth was this picture I sold 910 prints of this at $2 each and 90 framed prints at $13 each. Sadly my circumstances do not allow me to sell any more work now, so I have wound down my prints venture :(
