185 - MORPETH MARKET PLACE IN THE 19th CENTURY - DAVE EDWARDS - INK - 1991

Another old drawing I once displayed on RB and no-one was interested. I have been getting some good feedback today for my pen and inks, so I thought I’d show a few old ones to see what reception they get.

Good one, dave. So rich in details and textures and tones. Love the vague background that adds so much depth to this drawing. A stunning beauty!

Catblack … I predict that you will create much better work than this if you keep at it …. I pride myself on spotting talent.

Well I wasn’t around when you submitted this first time. Just shows you how clueless most viewers are, if they passed over this beauty, without even bothering to comment.
You know I love Thomas Hair watecolours from the 1830’s. This has the same flavour for me. You could add gentle watercolour washes (to a print of this, using canvas print paper) to try a fresh style to it.

Firstly Colin … where would I find pictures by Thomas Hair?
Secondly … I have a few prints of this (I used to sell them) and I might try what you suggest. I fancy trying line and wash and even bought an instruction book. I also fancy trying A3 size, as I always use A4. Thanks for your encouragement and advice … it is appreciated.

I had to have plenty detail in as it is a historic record, so I did lots of measuring and it took almost twelve hours altogether.

Now see.. you got me beat there! I rarely do scenes especially with buildings in them. This is really excellent work.. much better than I could ever do!!

I think you have more talent in your fingernails than I have in my whole body … but thank you for the compliment.
