210 - DUN COW PUB, BLYTH - DAVE EDWARDS - COLOURED PENCILS - 2008
I’ve just finished this… I used coloured pencils and worked mainly from an old black and white photo. This pub no longer exists, or should I say, this is not extant.

Lovely colors, Dave. The touch of dark blue around the window and door adds interest to the composition. You echo it well in other spots in the image. I bet this looks better than the original did.

illistrator, devine!! lovely drawing,fine work!
BLYTHART in reply to Patricia L. Ballard’s comment, 7 months ago
It is no boast to say this is much more colourful than the original picture, because I did this from a black and white photo ;) The actual building would be a lot more grimy than this. The ship you see in the background is berthed where the old collier ships used to be, so there would be coal dust embedded in the bricks. The buiding was demolished years ago.
BLYTHART in reply to Martin Derksema’s comment, 7 months ago
Thanks Martin. Other countries have brightly coloured houses, but here most of the older houses (ours included) are the same dull red brick with no variation. In my paintings, I take liberties and try to liven the colours up a little.

lovely work

Thanks Sean … by the way, everyone, the little house is on the other side of the river .. not on the ship … just thought I’d mention that :))

Fine work with coloured pencil, Dave. You’ve managed to impart a hint of grim atmosphere, in this brightly coloured sketch.
Did the original, have that unusual curve to the gutter line?
BLYTHART in reply to Colin Cartwright’s comment, 7 months ago
No Colin … that unusual curve is 100% Dave Edwards whimsy, as is the curve in the pavement line and the slight bend in the lamp post :) All in keeping with my Bendy Buildings style.
catblack, 7 months ago
wow cool! groovy perspective on the building.
Brian Towers, 7 months ago
This one got a big response Dave – and deservedly so. I see you are mixing straight and bendy in your building this time, not to mention shadow. Your pencilwork is proving to be very successful.
BLYTHART in reply to catblack’s comment, 7 months ago
Thanx Catblack.
BLYTHART in reply to Brian Towers’s comment, 7 months ago
oh decisions decisions … straight or bent … only jesting. Seriously though … I am surprised myself at the reception this has had. I only put it on this afternoon … wish all my work was this popular :)

Your a wizard with those pencils : )
BLYTHART in reply to bites’s comment, 7 months ago
You are very kind Bites. If you want to see some real wizards with coloured pencils, go to my latest Journal entry where you wil find a clickable list of names of coloured pencil artists … hopefully that list will get larger as the days go on.
