252 - CAMELIA DESIGN - DAVE EDWARDS - ACRYLIC - 2009

I put aside my coloured pencils to do this one in acrylic paint (as indicated in the title).

As I have mentioned before, I rarely copy photographs as they are. I use the photograph as a diving board into the pool of my imagination.

I’d like to thank Kristina K. for giving me permission to use this photo of hers and I hope she isn’t too disappointed with what I did with it.

I think Kristina will be very pleased!!! Beautiful work Dave, I love the deep saturation of color and the patterns!!

  • BLYTHART replied

I just uploaded it a few minutes ago and already the Acrylics group has rejected it without any reason, despite eleven other groups accepting it. I thought it was okay actually.

  • MoonSpiral

    MoonSpiral

That is crazy….I am telling you Dave….they want you to put that it is done in acrylics over in the description. I bet they didn’t even read the title! It almost looks like it was done in colored pencil.

  • BLYTHART replied

I’m friendly with Helene Ruiz of Acrylics Group, and I know she likes my work, so I have asked her if she can find out why this was rejected. I know she personally wouldn’t have rejected it.

  • BLYTHART replied

Helene Ruiz saved the day for me … it had been a mistake.

Really creative interpretation of a beautiful flower!
It looks like a camelia to me, with those shiny leaves – but whatever it is – it’s lovely! :))

  • BLYTHART replied

Many thanks for drawing my attention to that. I have altered the title. And thanks for your nice comment.

  • Tom Gomez

    Tom Gomez

    Well I like it Dave.

  • BLYTHART replied

According to Helene, they might have rejected it because I didn’t use the word “acrylic” in the description box, although I used it in the title. She asked me to try again.

  • BLYTHART replied

It’s been added to the Acrylics Group now, thanks to Helene.

You know how I like scale and depth Dave. I think the ‘tube’ or tendril on the right does it for me.

great Dave! was waiting to see this …..you have used the acrylics just fine..the bold colours and contrasts and clear crisp edges show off your unique, surrealistic, abstract art perfectly and I love Roses!

  • BLYTHART replied

I’d forgotten the photo was of a camelia and I titled it Rose Design and that’s how it appears in the Groups.

The Rose is beautiful dave..well done!!

  • BLYTHART replied

Do you like my inspired comment in the description box: “I use the photograph as a diving board into the pool of my imagination.” When people say I can use their photos I often worry if they will be annoyed with the end results as they are hardly precise copies. hanks for your compliment by the way … appreciated.

wow. that’s awesome Dave. So inventive. The first thing that caught me was the dynamic effect of achieved by the perspective. That boldly striped branch comes right out towards the viewer giving the whole image enormous depth.

  • BLYTHART replied

Thanks Andrea. I enjoy doing things like that. As you maybe know, I can’t be bothered painting anything I don’t enjoy painting. If you like the branch you may also like this picture I once did .

This should be in Wonderland. Amazing use of pattern in the leaves of the flower.

  • BLYTHART replied

I suppose I tried to make the petals resemble textiles. I’m sure it irritates some people to see me altering texture and pattern in natural things, but it’s just something I enjoy doing. Glad you like it.
