190 - LINDISFARNE CASTLE - DAVE EDWARDS - INK - 1991
Lindisfarne, usually known as Holy Island, is off the north east coast of England, shortly before reaching Berwick On Tweed.
Celtic Christianity reached our country from Ireland via Iona and Lindisfarne. The Lindisfarne Gospels (similar to the Book of Kells) was written here. The Vikings invaded and slaughtered the monks, but some escaped with the Gospels and the remains of St. Cuthbert. They fled to Durham, stopping off at many places enroute, most of which ended up with a church named in honour of St. Cuthbert.
Tomg mentioned the Beblowe Craig, a volcanic mound on which the castle stands. Here is Tom’s photo, taken from a different perspective and showing more of the actual castle.
Wutz4tea, a new Redbubbler, mentioned liking Holy Island, so I am uploading this for her.

Although I did this seventeen years ago I can still remember how dedicated to the drawing I felt as I was doing it. I spent ages on it. I did three castles: this one, Bamburgh and Alnwick and speaking objectively this was the superior of the three regarding technique, but it sold less prints than the other inferior ones did.

That’s one thing I’ve never mastered – betting on what will appeal to people when selling artwork. We are all different and greatly vary in our tastes. As artists however, I think we can appreciate the skills and techniques we see in some pictures but not necessarily want to have them on our walls. The positive comments we get on RB overwhelms the few sales most of us get, but it’s a pleasent exercise anyway.

Superb drawing skill, Dave. I’ll have to check out your other castle drawings.
And an informative descrition for those who don’t abouthis wonderful place.
