192 - SEATON DELAVAL HALL - DAVE EDWARDS - INK - 1992
Catherine Walker of Redbubble was joking about how she’d love to buy a castle to live in and that reminded me of this drawing I once did of a stately home three miles from where I live.
As the owners are finding it expensive to run it is now up for sale. Don’t all rush at once, but if you’d like a nice home with a history and (reputedly) the ghost of a lady dressd in white then here is the bargain of a lifetime … a mere snip at only £13.2 million ($26 million approx.).

Wow, excellent detail Dave, wonderful work …
BLYTHART replied
I think it was drawing detailed pictures like this, Tom, that knacked my eyesight .. either that or buying a computer :) Seriously … when i drew this I had perfect eyesight. Now I need glasses or everything is just a blur on the page/screen.
Lance Leopold
A stunning ink drawing,Dave, the detail is nothing short of awesome!!!
catherine walker
..that’s totally amazing work ..so well done..
I am amazed!!!
.. all the the work in this _ it must have taken so long to do.
wonderful !!
BLYTHART replied
... approx. twelve hours … but not all at once … maybe periods of two hours at a time. Now … are you going to buy the building before it goes up to 27 million?
catherine walker
No ..but I could make a tunnel underneath and come up in a room and hide there..use all the facilities and pretend I am queen for a night ..LOL anyone want to help me dig..hhe!!!!
BLYTHART replied
That explains a lot … maybe you are the white lady they speak of ..
helene ruiz
the detail here is just amazing…..just amazing! u r really fantastic dave!
Steven Novak
The detail here is so impressive it’s almost beyond belief. I am starting to think you’re more computer than man Dave! ;)
BLYTHART replied
I am a Dalek … I am a Dalek … oops … maybe you don’t get Dr Who over there :) I recently uploaded a pen and ink of Sacre Coeur Cathedral where i combined this style with my bendy style if you care to take a look

Dave this is really impressive, great drawing but I will decline the offer of buying the mansion, can you imagine the cost of heating?? then one would have to have servants to clean it when age is creeping on.
BLYTHART replied
Oh go on Gloria .. you know you are just making feeble excuses … buy it and rent it out to tourists :) I think you are keeping a tight hold of your money until Buckingham Palace goes up for sale :)
Brian Towers
You’ve certainly branched out into a variety of other forms of art from when you did so many of these drawings Dave, the main differences being colour and your own ‘whimsey’ buildings. I would guess that is part in due to you mastering your formal drawing to perfection and then you needed to move on to other challenges. I think this is one of your best pen and ink works.
BLYTHART replied
Thank you Brian … I owe my poor eyesight to drawings such as this.
BLYTHART replied
Who knows what the future holds. I haven’t given up on pen and ink drawing as you know, but Brian, I have so much to learn and instead of doing what I could have done and just concentrated on pen and ink I am trying to branch out into other aspects of art as well as, but not instead of, my pen and ink. For me pen and ink is special as it was the first form of art I truly enjoyed doing.

Incredible detail.

stunning piece, dawnx

Wow, intense detail Dave. I would love to live in this stunning haunted home, I’m planning on having about 13 dogs so I need a lot of room for them to play : )
Great piece.
GloriaDK
Dave I think the Queen would have something to say about that. My French blood cringes at the thought of a revolution, look what happened. No methinks a normal medium sized house would do for us.
Karin Taylor
amazingly fine detail Dave!
Firedrake
Does the ghost lady come with the house? Is she in the contract of sale??
BLYTHART replied
I think she will even do a bit of cleaning for you.
Peter Allton
Amazing detail Dave.Well done.
andrea verstegen
It’s mine.
Shocking to see that people are prepared to let this one go. Other halls in England are being restored at great cost-why not this one? Your beautiful drawing pays homage to a magnificent building. Like it.

I was here admiring your wonderful work and reading your notes. . . That ‘white lady’ hyperlink you have in here is lethal. I just had to do a complete virus scan after clicking on it.
BLYTHART replied
The link was okay when I put it on, but maybe someone has added a virus since then. I have deleted the link to protect others in the future. Hope your computer works okay now. What exactly happened to require a complete virus scan? I use a free virus checker and when it locates a virus it emits a loud noise and tells me to close the link down. I have had viruses from music sites before, but didn’t know ghosty sites were a target for them.

Stunning work Dave, I don’t remember seeing this before.
It certainly deserves to be featured.
Colin Cartwright
Great attention to detail here, Dave.
The shading, creating the variation in tone and subsequent textures in the stone of this wonderful old building, is impressive.
Also, excellent repetitive lines and symmetry in the drawing. This Is something I find difficult with my health problem, making my hands shake badly.
A fine one, I’m pleased to add to my faves.
BLYTHART replied
Many thanks Colin. Of course, I did this one back in 1992 when I was a young lad of 42 :)
Many of the lines were pencilled in first and then I drew free-hand with a pen over them. I too have a shaky hand, especially when my anxiety kicks in.
Lynda Robinson
Good heavens Dave! What an amazing job you did!!!! Congratulations on a well deserved feature.
Irene Burdell

My kind of thing. Detail, Detail, Detail! Excellent work Dave, Perfect perspective. I know this took a lot of tedious work…..but so well worth the effort. Congratulations on your features!

This is brilliant Dave and I don’t know how I missed it before. I live not so far away from the Hall as well and the NT (National Trust) is trying to raise half the money to take it over.
Cheers Neil
