239 - THE MOUSE - DAVE EDWARDS - WATERCOLOUR - 2008

Try this … it’s fun! I allowed myself two tubes of blue watercolour, three brushes and some water (no pencils). I copied the mouse from an ornament on our mantelpiece. It was raining today, so I watched Shopgirl (Steve Martin) while doing this picture :)

Thanks Catherine. The important part of the exercise for me was to create an image without using a pencil.

I like the use of colour here…a limited palette can bring out different and interesting effects!

  • BLYTHART replied

Yes, two tubes of paint is a fairly limited palette :) Made a change from the number of colours I usually use.

I have tried this (and yes it was fun) but not with such wonderful results as your little mouse. He’s so expressive and I really like the background pattern.

  • BLYTHART replied

The “real” mouse is an ornament beside our fireplace .. one the few occasions where I didn’t use a photo for reference.
