225 - GRAND UNION CANAL, STOKE BRUERNE - OILS -
I started this painting many years ago and never finished it. I’ve been working on it recently and here it is; hence the date 2008 on it.
My wife and I and our children spent a happy afternoon at Stoke Bruerne and even went on one of the barges. We passed the famous barge used in the English children’s TV series Rosie and Jim, which sort of dates this painting.

this is a fine. homey painting reminds us of another england, before all the great changes, but time never stands sill, if your still, your dead! you make some very relaxing art to look at, it shows your own nature dave,
BLYTHART replied
I had to smile .. I suffer from chronic anxiety, but I do have my moments of relaxation when I haven’t too much to worry about. Our son is home from his four month adventure in Australia, so my stress levels have gone down a little.
BLYTHART replied
Hi Walt … this is a part of England that hasn’t changed too much actually. There are pockets in England where time has stood still to some extent and the beauty still remains.
Romo
Excellent painting:)
SHEDART
Nice one Dave, it somehow reminds of a LOWERY yes! no!
BLYTHART replied
I like Lowry a lot, so your shed will not be blown up tonight :)) Seriously though, I even went to Salford to see his work, but this is nothing to do with Lowry; probably just not painted very well.
SHEDART
I like LOWERY myself and i think it’s very good
BLYTHART replied
Did you know Lowry did a sketch of Blyth lighthouse and of the old Chain Ferry at Blyth?

Great work Dave! I’ve recently been digging through old unfinished stuff and thinking about either updating or finishing it somehow as well. It’s great because half the job is already done. ;)
BLYTHART replied
Go for it Steven … complete the unfinished stuff and then you can move on.

While industrial in their day, canals have a romantic and artistic look to them – we once had a week’s holiday on a narrow boat on one. You show well how artistic they can look with this painting Dave.
Alexandra Jack
Really like the painting. I find that the waterway draws my eyes into the painting.

What a lovely, pleasant scene! This may not make sense to you but yesterday I watched a repeat of the Antique Roadshow, on T.V.. And the expert was talking about how the eye was being guided through a certain painting.
That’s what I’m doing with your work too.
It’s good that you gave it the finishing touch.
BLYTHART replied
Thanks ever so.
