121 - SNAKE - ink - 1986

I’m nearly frightened to put this on Redbubble, as there seem to be so many people in the world with a snake phobia and I have already been scolded three times by friends for drawing snakes … I’ve never held a snake, but if anyone near me would like to rectify that, let me know – no poisonous ones though :) I’ve had a rat walk over my neck, but it’s not quite the same is it :)

Intense! It is a bit scary, you’re right, but it’s a powerful emotion to evoke with a piece of art! I can’t get over the realism of this! How long did it take you to do? (Oh and by the way, I have held several snakes… of varying sizes…) ;-P

Excellent work Dave!!! Your pen and ink works are always powerful and dramatic.

We have rattlesnakes here in Penticton, although I have not seen one since I moved here. I’m pretty happy about that too!!! In July a young lad was bitten by some kind of water snake. Apparently they go across Skaha Lake from time to time.

When I was younger I owned a red tail Boa, Then I found out how big they get and that they eat pigs and rabbits, when they are 6 feet long. I could not keep it for I felt to gilty feeding it mice. Snakes are not slimy they are very smooth and are very gracefull. But if you have pets wash your hands, they have a very good sence of smell. Every snake has its own personality, just like any other animal. just remember some snakes bite at fast movement of the hands or feet.

Hi Dave – Love his expresssion.
I used to be head keeper at a small animal park and one of my duties was giving snake demonstrations. We had about 5 snakes in total and the biggest was about 18 ft long and weighed approx. 200lb (it took 3 of us to carry it) but they’re not that bad Dave, honest (unless they’re hungry that is!). I recommend you hold one as they feel nothing like most people would imagine.

    Excellent work.
Some people might even like this as a tattoo, which is a growing market for real artists in our area.
