  • BLYTHART

    BLYTHART

Penny, you are an angel! I’m still not used to hearing people say such nice things about my paintings because here where I live I am considered a beginner (apart from my pen and inks). Joining Redbubble has taught me that maybe I am nowhere near as inadequate as I formerly believed myself to be. Maybe I should move to Australia if i want to be appreciated. Maybe we all need a little encouragement now and again and so I thank you and everyone else who has encouraged me so much on Redbubble.

I love your whimsical take on the world around you. Isn’t it funny how we see our own art and think only one style is ‘good’?! You do beautiful work, both in pen and ink and watercolor. Wish I could go walking in these fields!

  • BLYTHART replied

Thanks JanG. I’d get bored with just one style, so be prepared for surprises as I switch styles a lot between pen and ink and whimsical colour.

I love your style, your colours and the feeling of joy portrayed in this delightful painting. I have never been to Blyth, but my family originated from Hartlepool, and I can relate to so many of your subjects. I am so glad we connected.

  • BLYTHART replied

I shall try very hard to resist all those “who hung the monkey” jokes :) Seriously though, Hartlepool is improving its image a lot over the last few years. They have a lovely little art gallery. It was once a church and they have retained the stained glass windows.

When I saw your work for the first time I was struck by its magical almost fairytale quality. I hope you have found a book publisher. Your paintings would make great illustrations for children’s stories.

  • BLYTHART replied

You are really kind. I gratefully accept “magical almost fairytale” as one of the nicest compliments I’ve had. I am a retired postman/mailman who enjoys painting. I’m not even sure how I would approach a book publisher. I have to admit though, that I do seem to prefer illustrations to wall paintings. My wife wants me to do illustrations, but at the age of 59 and being medically retired I feel I may have left it too late :(

If I can find the bottom of the comments page I would like to add mine!!!! Congratulations on the feature Dave. (On reading George’s comment I have cravings for some of those yummy Pommie fish n chips)!!!! Very clever ‘whimsicalism’ – hey, that could become a new art movement, like ‘pointillism’ and ‘cubism’!!!! Well done and thanks for brightening our days with your wonderful work.

  • BLYTHART replied

This will amaze you – before i joined Redbubble I was in a group called WHIMSICALISM. Not much was happening, but if you care to look here you’ll see I am speaking the truth :)

  • BLYTHART replied

Sorry Lynda – when you get there you have to look up ARTISTS and then Dave Edwards. I was invited to join by a lady who was trying to create a new movement called WHIMSICALISM

A riot of colours, sunspecs time!
This is a great little kid’s world you’ve created, Dave.
And would make a fine illustration for a book. Or psychedelia – reminds of the Beatles cartoon film, ‘Yellow Submarine’.

  • BLYTHART replied

... not sure why you call it a little kids world, but I am sure you mean well. I am trying to create an innocent world, not necessarily just for childen though.
