Sometimes it’s fun to take make one material / shader and then apply it to everything in a scene. That’s what happened here and that is how Herbert came to be.
When I first made him I looked at his face and thought — “Oh dear you are a mess I best tidy you up”. Then I left him on my desktop for a week and grew to like him just the way he is.
Then I realised not only did he look like a “Little Herbert”, but that was his name!
Herbert was an experiment made in Carrara – the material started life in Groboto.
You are outrageous, now I’m going to have to try that same thing! In fact, if I ever get around to learning fractals, I’d like to start making shaders, textures, even masked textures from them, imagine the lacy delicate geometry that could result!!!
I did that with an image from apophysis – flipped the image to create some trasparencies too – I might have to find them – it is a lot of fun — I have a walking boot on redbubble which was made with the same image for main part of leather and the repeating background but I was not as strict as with this one — the eyes and ears and nose are all the same material.

I thank you and Blue Man thanks you, I know he left to go home in image Blue Man #12, but here’s a clue, I have started a new image of Blue Man at his home!! He has a house, a girlfriend, car, yard, guitar(!!), there’s lots to design and model so a while yet, but you’re a fan so now you know what’s coming!!!
