This is a picture of John’s father taken recently. At 91 he is a remarkable gentleman He loves to do all his own gardening and still competes with me over who will get the best crop of tomatoes. He looks at all his grown children of which there are six, his grandchildren of which there are 15 and 11 great grandchildren to date with a great deal of pride. Although when we have a family gathering which is all 37 of us he has been known to comment that things are “Just a little bit noisy”. After living through the Nazi occupation of Holland in World War Two, he and my mother-in-law immigrated to Western Canada with dreams of a new and better life. He became a Canadian citizen. With hard work and lean years he forged ahead and succeeded in making his dreams come true. In my eyes truly a remarkable man, a family treasure and an example for us all to follow.
