The houses in this picture are those in the street parallel to the previous picture. Until the local coal mine was closed, a railway embankment carrying tubs filled with coal to the local docks occupied the space where this street now stands. My father, grandfather and great grandfather all worked in that mine! Now they are all dead and the mine, the shaft of which went two miles underground and which extended for long distances in all directions, is part of history.
