A collage made of the various pieces of my new Hanson reinforced Grenadilla (African blackwood) clarinet in B flat. It has a beautiful tone throughout the entire range – bright, but with a touch of mellow.
I play both classical music and jazz on my clarinet. It is a popular instrument in the Northern English town where I live, especially with school children. I teach it up to and including the Intermediate grades.
I include a link for an excellent clarinet solo from Mozart’s famous “Clarinet Concerto in A” (The Third Movement, Rondo, Allegro) at one of the Promenade Concerts held every summer in the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is played by a brilliant young clarinettist, Julian Bliss, aged 17, before Queen Elizabeth II, with Sabine Meyer conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Julian plays the Rondo on basset horn, for which it was originally composed by Mozart.However, most modern performances of this work are on soprano clarinet, either in A or in B flat.
