I dedicate this picture to my friend, Ana Belaj, whose dear husband, Andrija, passed away on 3 February 2011. May the memories of their happy times together be a comfort to her, until that day, when they will meet again, no more to part.

We must all, one day, come to the end of our journey through life, which is a vale of tears, and lay our burdens down, before we pass into the Great Beyond.

The words of this beautiful hymn of comfort, the Scriptural basis to which is Hebrews 12: 1-3, were composed by Spencer W. Kimball, and the music by George D. Pyper.

“Does the journey seem long?
The path rugged and steep?
Are there briars and thorns on the way?
Do sharp stones cut your feet,
As you struggle to rise
To the heights through the heat of the day?”

“Is your heart faint and sad,
Your soul weary within?
As you toil ’neath your burden of care?
Does your load heavy seem
You are forced now to lift?
Is there no one your burden to share?”

“Let your heart not be faint,
Now your journey’s begun.
There is One who still beckons to you.
So look upward in joy,
And take hold of his hand.
He will lead you to heights that are new.”

“A land holy and pure,
Where all trouble doth end,
And your life shall be free from all sin’
Where no tears shall be shed,
For no sorrows remain,
Take his hand and with him enter in.”

The background to the text is a “Golden Jewel” miniature rose growing in our garden in the North-East of England and soaking up the sunshine after a heavy shower of rain.
