The Bloemenlaan (flower lane) is a long stretch of blue muscari (grape hyacinths) flanked on either side by trees and planted with daffodils or narcissi in different combinations each year and is a unique characteristic of the Keukenhof Gardens in Holland.
Featured in GEMS on 21 January 2012 and in A GARDEN SOMEWHERE on 29 January 2012

Some other countries have tried – with very limited success – to imitate it. In this picture the grape hyacinths are accompanied by Arctic Gold narcissi.

My life is divided between teaching Music and Photography. The instruments I play are organ, piano, clarinet and saxophone. I taught German and Spanish before my retirement, but since I got my digital camera no longer have time for them!

  • Glad you liked it! Every year the Flower Lane is planted differently – sometimes with deeper blue – sometimes with lighter blue muscari – and with different varieties of daffodils each time. The yellow flowers in the picture are – I think – Arctic Gold narcissi.

  • Thank you so much for this lovely feature, Sharlee. Every year they plant this section of the Keukenhof with different coloured muscari and tulips. I can hardly wait to go there again in April to see what variation on the theme they will have come up with!
