These majestic orange beauties are called fritillery.or Crown Imperials and are a prominent and permanent feature of the beautiful Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands. The connection between orange and Holland ought to be obvious; it is because of the House of Orange in the Dutch Royal Family.

My life is divided between teaching Music and Photography. The instruments I play are organ, piano, clarinet and saxophone. I taught German and Spanish before my retirement, but since I got my digital camera no longer have time for them!

    Beautiful. Inst fav. :)

  • Thank you, Meg. I had never seen the stately Crown Imperials, which the Dutch call “fritillery” or frilled tulips before I visited the Keukenhof.

I’d like to see the area where the trees are blurred a bit to capture a more spot on focal point, but this is a beautiful image none-the-less!

  • Thank you, Lacey. It was actually the first occasion when I used my new digital camera. Prior to that I had just used film cameras, so all my shots were taken on the AUTO setting, as I did not dare try anything else! We intend returning there in a couple of years’ time, so I’ll bear your suggestion in mind. However, as the layout of the park is changed from year to year, it might not be possible to get the same picture, though there will undoubtedly be something similar.
