These tiny creatures play a pivotal role in the fertilization of our crops. Without them we would be very hungry, and so would all the animals and birds on the planet.
The collage shows a variety of pollinators captured in different cirumstances in the North-East of England. The Painted Lady butterfly obligingly posed for me on a blossom in the grounds of our local church. The green butterfly on our neighbour’s dahlia was more elusive and I had to be quick off the mark with the bee and wasp! The only exception with regard to location is the bee on the orange flower, which was photographed in rural Essex.
