Out of Tune

Out of Tune

I found this old piano in an abandoned church. It’s a haunting echo of music played, songs sung, and dances danced.

Out of Tune belongs to the following groups:

A Class of Its Own and POSTED: No Trespassing Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

:-) This one would need one heck of a disclaimer. There were actually two in the church. I don’t know why someone didn’t remove them before they were destroyed by the elements.

As my mom is in the piano restoring and tuning business, I have learnt a lot about pianos. They are beautiful and fascinating instruments. It’s amazing to think that an average piano action contains 7500 moving parts, and that the 230 strings exert a combined tension of approximately 18 tons!
Your wonderful capture of this derelict piano conveys a lingering sense of melancholy, of the fragility, transcience and ephemeral beauty of life. Exquisite light and toning, an amazing image! (Wonder whether my mom and her partner would consider it restorable?)

No fingers now draw from it chords
That it once formed, each one like words
    Now only insects and birds
    Dwell among its strings
    And only birds from within
    To those outside sings

    No more airs of romance
Play as on the keys fingers dance
As a young man gauges his chance
    Of a damsel nearby
    Who to the music hums
    Oblivious to his wandering eye

And we someday the piano shall be
A similar state our bodies will see
Though birds not dwell within maybe
    And maybe yes!!!
After our day when it is done
And we to God our sins confess.

Let us when that time is here
To decay and rot let us not fear
It matters not after our time how we appear
    Be not be dismayed
When alive, make sure like the piano you
    Are often merrily played!

Can I use your photo for the poem above with appropiate credits? I want to make a video from it…
