This inviting outback waterhole is located at Ormiston George in the West MacDonnell National Park, Northern Territory, Australia. This national park extends along the MacDonnell Ranges west of Alice Springs.
The waterhole at Ormiston Gorge is around 14 metres deep, and beckons the traveller at the end of a rewarding day exploring.
The gorge is dotted by graceful river red gums and wallabies that make the park their home.
Ormiston Creek runs through West MacDonnell National Park. It is a tributary of the Finke River, which some call the oldest river in the world.
