The Road Ahead by Michael John

While travelling from South Australia to the Northern Territory, I stopped the car to capture the long, flat road ahead. Much of the journey through central Australia looks like this.

The Stuart Highway is one of Australia’s major highways. It is the principal north-south route through the ‘outback’ – central interior of mainland Australia.

The highway is named after John McDouall Stuart, who was the first European to cross Australia from south to north.

Maimya ZM film camera, as is.

I live in Australia and enjoy bushwalking in the great outdoors, especially the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park.

My photographic interests are pretty much related to Australian landscapes, rustic Australia, historic Australia, Australian wildlife, flora, fauna, birds, etc. Guess I love the country I was born and live in.

Huh… I could steal this right now and add it to the story growing in my mind (and am wanting to write), re the spiritual journey, and my personal journey. The title is perfect…

I love this image not only for the above reason (which thrills me stupid %-} ) but also because it’s a scene I love to travel through. I kinda like this country of ours. :)

On a long bus drive from Perth to Dampier (nearing the top of WA) my dad and I sat for AGES looking out the front of the bus, along a road just like this, trying to figure out what the shape was in the distance. It felt like forever before we realised it was a truck. We couldn’t believe how long and straight the road was… It still makes my heart beat on remembering such travels. :) I love to travel our roads. Of all the places in the world I could go, it would be around Australia by car.

    Awesome capture, Michael. Love it!

  • Yes, this really is Australia and you have to love it! It has a character and uniqueness all of its own. I am pleased that you can also relate to it. Enjoyed reading your comment, and thanks for the fave!

This very much appeals to me Michael. Just hop in a car…and drive.
It may look like “nothingness”, but all roads lead to somewhere hey!!
    Great sho!!

  • That’s exactly right Sharon. There is always something different to see.

This pic reminds me of the long trips to & from high school between Moree & Garah … 100kms a day for 6 years!!
I remember looking at the illusion of water on the road which of course disappeared as you approached & ‘moved’ further on.
That’s probably one reason why I love mountains & greenery these days. Interesting photo.

  • You would know it well. Yes the mirage is alwasy interesting to view. You don’t see that in the city.
