While at the beach near Kiama I saw a flock of birds in the distance flying in a V formation.

As they flew closer, I recognised them as being Australian Pelicans (Pelecanus conspicillatus).

A V formation (sometimes called a skein) is the symmetric V-shaped flight formation of flights of geese, ducks, and other migratory birds.

Kiama, NSW, Australia.

Canon G12, as is.

I live in Australia and enjoy bushwalking in the great outdoors, especially the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park.

My photographic interests are pretty much related to Australian landscapes, rustic Australia, historic Australia, Australian wildlife, flora, fauna, birds, etc. Guess I love the country I was born and live in.

This reminds me of watching birds in the country when I was young. I don’t know what birds they were but they flew in formation & they fascinated me. Cool shot Mike.

  • It is always a great sight to see them flying in formation like this. Thanks Michael.
