This interesting beetle is known as a Jewel beetle. These insects are often brightly coloured with a glossy, metallic, iridescent sheen.
This particular jewel beetle (or metallic wood-boring beetle) belongs to the scarab family, Scarabaeidae.
This beetle is sitting on a white Tick Bush flower (Kunzea ambigua), commonly known as the White Kunzea, Poverty Bush or Tick Bush. This is a common shrub of the Myrtaceae family in eastern Australia. It bears small white flowers in spring and attracts native insects.
Captured near Katoomba in the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains National Park, NSW, Australia.
