The Gouldian Finch (Erythrura gouldiae or Chloebia gouldiae), also known as the Lady Gouldian Finch, Gould’s Finch or the Rainbow Finch, is a colourful passerine bird endemic to Australia. The Gouldian Finch was described by British ornithological artist John Gould in 1844 and named after his wife Elizabeth.

There is strong evidence of a continuing decline, in the wild (Northern Territory). In 1992, it was classified as “Endangered in the wild” under IUCN’s criteria C2ai. This was because the viable population size was estimated to be less than 2,500 mature individuals. It is currently subject to a conservation program.

This is the red-headed variety.

Canon 400D, as is, captured in a wildlife reserve.

I live in Australia and enjoy bushwalking in the great outdoors, especially the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park.

My photographic interests are pretty much related to Australian landscapes, rustic Australia, historic Australia, Australian wildlife, flora, fauna, birds, etc. Guess I love the country I was born and live in.
