This old statue of Atlas was captured beside Tebbutt’s Observatory. John Tebbutt was a pioneer in the field of astronomy.

In Greek mythology, Atlas was the primordial Titan who supported the heavens.

Atlas is still used as a symbol of strength or stoic endurance. He is often shown kneeling on one knee while supporting an enormous round globe on his back and shoulders. The globe originally represented the celestial sphere of ancient astronomy, rather than the earth.

Windsor, NSW, Australia.

Canon 400D.

I live in Australia and enjoy bushwalking in the great outdoors, especially the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park.

My photographic interests are pretty much related to Australian landscapes, rustic Australia, historic Australia, Australian wildlife, flora, fauna, birds, etc. Guess I love the country I was born and live in.

I love ‘feeling’ a photo. And in this, you can virtually feel his struggle. I think the length of the photo helps, somehow – rather than a ‘regular’ shot. I like that! :) And I love how you shared information on it. Makes ‘him’ feel real. :) Well done.

  • Yes, I think we have all felt like this at some stage! Thanks for the great comment Donna.
