Artist's Description

This historic bridge at Ross was built by convicts between 1830-1836. My Great, Great etc Uncle was there at the time and was probably one of the 50 convicts who helped build it.

It crosses the Macquarie River. The bridge was built by convicts Daniel Herbert and James Colbeck, to a design by John Lee Archer.

The sandstone contains many interesting carved designs and symbols around the arches (see detail in other photo).

This is the third oldest bridge in Australia and is part of the Australian Heritage Commission list.

Mamiya ZM film.
