Artist's Description

This image show the Indian Pacific train, CLP12, captured at Central Railway, Sydney, in 1995 at track level.

The Indian Pacific is a weekly passenger rail service running between Sydney and Perth. It is one of the few truly transcontinental trains in the world. The train first ran in February 1970 after the completion of gauge conversion projects in South and Western Australia.

This photos was captured as part of the train’s special commemorative journey, celebrating it’s 25th year in operation. Following the conversion of the Adelaide to Melbourne railway line to standard gauge in 1995, the Indian Pacific made a promotional trip from Perth to Brisbane via Melbourne and Sydney over 6 days in June of that year.

The sandstone clock tower at Central Station can be seen in the right background, and the top of Sydney Tower (then Centrepoint Tower) in the left background.
