This statue is located in a plaza at the corner of Main and West B Street in Kannapolis, NC to honor the life of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. aka “The Intimidator”. Anyone who loves NASCAR knows what a talented driver he was and how he got this nickname. He and Richard Petty are the only drivers who won a record 7 NASCAR championships during their career. He is also one of the 5 inaugural inductees in to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Here is an excerpt from www.daletrail.com: “The Plaza’s centerpiece is a 9-foot, 900-pound bronze statue of Dale as his hometown knew him – dressed in Wrangler jeans, cowboy boots and a short-sleeve shirt with button-down collar. He sports his famous grin, and his arms are crossed. His shirt is creased, his face shows wrinkles, and his sunglasses are in his shirt pocket. He faces south, so the sun is always on his face.”
i love dale jr! i was watching the race when dale sr. passed! so sad, a wonderful capture
I was watching the race too. A co-worker of mine took her husband to that race as a surprise since he always wanted to go. They were both Sr. fans too. Such a loss for the sport.
