2:14am, I Ponder, What If?

2:14am, I Ponder, What If?

Final of my 2:14am series ... maybe.

What If?
Two very intriguing words. I find it hard to think about all the different Lives in this world, and how you can only be one. ONE! in the trillions and trillions and trillions you could have been in the past and future and you are only One… it is amazing.
It beats at my mind, it proves how insignificant one life is no matter what you accomplish. You spend 80 or so years, if you’re Lucky, being this person, in this time, doing whatever it is you are doing and thats it. You have no idea what it would be like to be another person, in the distant past, future or in the now. there are 6 billion here in present time, You may think you are 1 in 6 billion, but when you put in all those that have once lived, going back to the first spark of human life up to now and then you add the many many MANY more yet to even be close to dawning this world you feel like nothing, a grain of sand against the largest Star, or even less.

Think of all those people you could be just by making one little change, If you made that green light, if you didn’t trip over that gutter, if you had eggs for breakfast instead of cereal today or if you never saw this image. It seems insignificant, but its something you will never know the effects of, all you know is what you are now because what you have or haven’t done. You are a completely different person because of it, it may not seem it but thats only because you do not know the other side of that moment that you just let blow unnoticed right in front of your eyes.

I enjoy looking at your imagery and reading your words. What if indeed, karma, destiny…who knows! The photograph is as always serene, you/the tree hidden in the darkness and lit so blazingly by the warm lighting. This also (for some reason) came to mind when reading your words

“To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.” William Blake

Hi daniel, This image is brilliant and you beautifully encapulated what we were talking about only the other day. I am definately not the same person I was 20 years ago or even 10 years ago. Maybe we are a collection of people but with the same name. Have you ever thought of that? JD

  • Daniel Angeles replied

thanks, yeah I was still thinking about that when i wrote this, I simplified it a bit, I had to cut out a whole bunch because i wrote way too much.

that is quite a fascinating view, no i haven’t thought about it that way,

.... see both these views can exist in the same meaning, we may be a collection of people in one self, in fact we are, I’m not the same person i was one second ago, i’m one second older, i’m living one second in the future, my mind has developed slightly, my heart has pumped one extra beat… the world from one second ago is completely different from that of right now so therefore i am in a different world and a different person. But collectively i share my existences with no other and no one shares with any one else.
I might be elaborating a bit too much and going a little far, but you have given me quite a bit to think about. Quite incredible
you have such thought provoking things to say.

stunning shot. instant favorite. i wonder if finding and favoriting this shot on red bubble will influence me or change the path of my life in some minor or major way? who can tell?

  • Daniel Angeles replied

For the minor change, well that has happened, You are now living in a world where you have seen this image and read my worlds, you can never know what it would be like to not have done that now.
as for the Major, Who knows what little differences seeing and reading my words could have done, it may slowly snowball into something huge as a direct result. but no one will ever know, as you said Who can tell?

And thanks, glad you like it.

i love this picture, it is amazing, but even more, your words are so similar to my thoughts it’s crazy- more than i would like to admit, i cross the causeway we have here and it just hits me- what are all of these people doing? all of these cars going who knows where for what reason, the buildings, the clueless people and multitudes around the world doing the same exact thing if in different ways or circumstance it doesn’t even make sense. what is the point of it all, we’ve built this whole society, culture, millions of inventions, but for what?? are we better off, happier, doing what is right, or is this just an illusion, our reality of the moment….

sorry, you just had me on a tangent that i find myself on already- great work

  • Daniel Angeles replied

god yeah, what is the reason behind any of it, where is the sense? I thought of this way of looking at everything, that the whole world, and life and everything in between is this machine, built at the dawn of time, but within seconds it broke down, parts snapped off, cogs don’t spin, buttons don’t work, and so on. but it still works to a degree, just not even nearly how it is meant to, it pretty much just has power and thats it.
We humans were born into living in this machine, we have no clue what it does, or how it works, we have never experienced its prime purpose but we have no idea that it is broken, we just assume thats how it was built to work because we know nothing else, so we will never know the true purpose of what anything is, or what anything is meant to do. we will just continue on this lost path to nothingness and believe it is the way.

now i am sorry for rambling,
And thanks, glad you think about these sort of things as well

  • Wendy Stivers

    Wendy Stivers

how brilliant! we must be kindred souls- i’ve totally thought of this, not as a machine, but just as a cosmic joke, we think our world is one thing, but we are so clueless…i wish you luck figuring it all out, because it still eludes me-i just try to live the best i can and believe in kharma and try to stifle all of the other stuff because it is so hopeless- isn’t it nice to know you are not alone, though? that’s what i felt when i read your words!take care of yourself..

Man oh man Daniel…....I absolutely LOVE your way of thinking. I think like this all of the time as well. What if I had never seen this picture (as you said) for example….then it wouldn’t have started a whole bunch of other what ifs that are flying through my brain right now. And what if that is just a waste of time thinking like that…..but what if it isn’t?! I truely belive that questioning and really thinking about things is way more entertaining than blindly trudging through day to day life! What if you had never commented on one of my images? Then I may never have come across your work…..but maybe I would have eventually. Ohhhhhh…..that’s a whole other show. Either way, I am thankful you did and I came to look at your work because it is nothing short of brilliant and I am very much enjoying your images and words :)

  • Daniel Angeles replied

what if indeed, even if you came across my work at a later time, there would be a world of differences that happen within that period, no matter how long it is, thats the magic of a single moment and the way it can seem insignificant but is actually a huge factor in changing a part of your life, which changes another and then another…., and all without you even realising.
And thanks for all your incredibly kind words….

  • shadowlee

    shadowlee

Great stuff, maybe you would find life easier to understand if you thought about one life, but one like no other and it has a purpose, it touches people along the line, if you make one person smile for awhile it helps them, and maybe we are not meant to see the whole picture yet. No one life is insignificant optherwise we wouldn’t be here, well thats one way of looking at things
