2:14am, I Breathe Smoke While They Dream Smoke.

Part of my 2:14am series

A regular thought occurred;

Sometimes its easier to think when the rest of the population is in the other world, the Dream world. The numbness of the cold is also a helpful mystery.

Although as I thought about the Dreaming people living their other lives I envied them, If only I could sleep forever and stay as my other self for the rest of my eternity, that way my problems are lifted and a whole set of new problems can emerge, Change is good no matter how bad it may seem.

Without this change we can not die, but we can not live without it.

awesome! and I know what you mean, I always liked the time just before dawn for the feeling of everyone being asleep – it is like secret, private time with no expectations … I took a picture of the otherworld – it’s in my portfolio …

  • Daniel Angeles replied

    Exactly.
I love the pure silence too. knowing that you are the only one who can make a noise. There is no peace in uncontrolled noise.

I’m no quite sure exactly which one of your works you are referring to, Help me out. there are a few other worldly ones you have in your folio.

I love that you are talking about your other self – I have been living a parallel life for so long. I have regular dreams too, but also the other life. I am a total night owl – I dread having to go back to work and get up in the morning, because I like the stillness and creativity that happens in the middle of the night.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Dream life is horrible if its better then your real life for that reason, you dread the wake.
I had this crazy Lucid dream last night were I was completely free to do whatever i want, then i woke up and was saddened by reality… then after a few minutes i realised I woke up in my bed and last night i slept on the couch so i knew i was still dreaming so back into my freedom i was, this hapened once more after that. when i really woke up I had to question reality. It was crazy fun.

This is brilliant use of light mate. I am really impressed with your work, and the stories that you are conveying. Great work!

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Cool, I find i have to add that element of story into my pictures because I find it boring otherwise, this image looked very cool when i just shot it as is without me, but its not my style i guess and i couldnt help it.
I Love your work and you have that same intrigue that i try and go for with putting in a story of some kind and you do it wonderfully. Its a great compliment coming from someone with work like yours. So I thank you dearly.

Congrats on your feature. Yeah! I had a dream once where I was in the most amazing place, just walking around in nature, nice streams, no clothes, moss beneath my feet, no cares, nice people – super sad when I woke up and I never did get to go back. But I am famous amongst my friends for my dreams. People want screenplays. lol

  • Daniel Angeles replied

    Thanks.
Nothing like dreams to remind you how bad your life really is. Ha.
I tend to use them to get answers, or replay moments or just have fun.

p.p.s. wish i was there thinking too… blowing out not smoke but steamed vapor because of the cold… : )

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Its funny i tried with just vapor as a test, It worked alright with enough breathes in the 10 second exposure, not as good as this though.

    thanks Mimi.

I know the night owl syndrome – I live in it myself. My best work happens between 1-4am. Re change, I was sent a nice quote recently:
“If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we are not really living. Growth demands a temporary surrender of security”.
    I love your image :-)

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Most definitely, Its my when my ideas come to existence mainly.

Brilliant Quote, to me Life is change, Without it we would still be nothing. Embrace change, no matter what it is, never hide form it and never try and stop it, work with it, its the only way we can grow.

    Thank you so much.

Love your philosophy on life! This is what I said in one of my drawings which may go along with what you’ve said ” I look at life like a big book and sometimes you get half way through it and think ” Even though I’ve been enjoying it, I’ve had enough. Give us another book. “

  • Daniel Angeles replied

    Yes, Thats quite brilliant.
What i tend to think of life is that is it so minimal, one life that is. We spend 80 or so years (if we’re lucky….or maybe unlucky) playing out as this one simple person, there are billions of lives, so SO different from our own yet we will never have any idea what it is to be different from ourselves. When you think hard about it, its quite amazing to not know what it is like to be anything apart from yourself.
Once you add the past lives going back to the dawn of human existence, and all the many more lives to yet be dawned upon this world it makes it infinitely more incredible to think about…. My mind is racing just thinking about it now as i write this out…..
thank you for sharing that with me, I haven’t thought about what I’ve just said for quite a while, its quite the amazing thought, i’m glad there are people out there who think about things like that.

  • John Dicandia

    John Dicandia

I often think what would it be like to be someone else. What would it be like to be rich and famous, or living in squalor in a third world country or being a prisoner in a brutal regime, or an astronaut, or a paraplegic or an elite athlete. Unfortunately the majority of people never rise above themselves and become the person they want to be . It’s really very sad.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

yes, i am so glad that you see it the same way as I. I mention this and people tend to go straight to thinking of being rich and famous and thats it, and not quite how i approach the thought either, yeah sure thats quite a different life, but what about the disadvantaged, the incredibly unlucky, the sons and daughters of the kings and queens, the astronauts, the award winning physicists…. etc….i’m so glad you think that way to.
It is quite sad, but its the way everything balances out unfortunately. I just hope i’m not one of those heavy weights on the bad side of the pivotal point…... I could go on for hours about all this.

i love that time in the morning. it feels more honest.
there’s no one else around. hardly any noise.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

I’ve never been in a quieter moment than this night, no cars in the background, no wind, no people. nothing. it was quite incredible.
    Thanks so much.
