We Can fly! If Only For A Second

This is my first ever Attempt at Action Photography, It was fun.

These guys were skating in Hyde Park, I went up to them and asked if I could watch and take some shots, they were cool with it. So i got snapping, Boy could they fly.

Very cool….I’m about to undertake my first action shots too, (skateboarding will be involved) any tips? :)

  • Daniel Angeles replied

    Thanks Laura,
Yeah try and make sure that when you’re taking the shots that you don’t have people directly behind them when they do the trick, I took hundreds of photos and so may were ruined because I didn’t think about this until the end. Mainly poles and lamp posts, I had some shots with this lamp post behind the skater and when I shot they would be right in between the legs and it looks horrible. so watch the background, And just keep shooting on Continuous mode until the camera is full, then if you want more just go through it and delete the obvious bad ones. Hope that helps.

Great shot. I saw people skateboarding at Martin Place as well.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

    Thanks a lot.
I love to watch, especially these guys, they were getting some crazy air and doing crazy tricks, i used to skate as a kid and when i see guys like this i regret quiting, actually a neighbour stole my board, sprayed it silver and denied the theft, he was about 50ft tall and half as wide and half that being muscle so i could do nothing but egg his house. and i never got a new one. shame.

This is a great shot. Actiion photography can sometimes bit a bit hit and miss since your subjects are just going to do what they do.
    This is definitely a hit.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Yeah i have so many shots and only a handful of good ones but out of those a lot are ruined by background elements and what not. It was fun though. I’m so glad this one came out well.
    Thanks.

  • Patrick Coombes

    Patrick Coombes

this is fantastic. really optimistic and it works so well in black and white! makes it more dream like.

  • Daniel Angeles replied

Thank you, I had the original shot in a soft tone but once i fiddled with the black and white and got this grainy rough feel with the high contrast it was just perfect…. real life dreaming, i like it. thanks.

  • Sarah Fulford

    Sarah Fulford
