Vitre Castle
Vitre was a prominent town in the days of yore (a long time ago), and this is still reflected by the number of castles and huge mansions that it houses even to this day.
A major portion of the castle was designed in the 13th century by Andre II and Andre III. After Andre III passed away, the initiative for the construction of the castle was undertaken by Guy de Laval. During the construction under his phase, he included the Madeleine tower in 1420, which is the charm of this castle. During this period itself, much of the castle was enlarged and prepared with robust towers and curtain walls.
There is also Saint-Laurent tower, which is 46 meters high and that too belongs to this period having sculptures from the 15th-century, a range of tombs of local personalities and Flemish and Aubusson tapestries. Vitre Castle can best be viewed from the Montafilant tower.
