The Herdwick is a breed of domestic sheep native to the Lake District of Cumbria in North West England. The name “Herdwick” is derived from the Old Norse herdvyck, meaning sheep pasture.
Great shot Marilyn. According to my cousin ( he lives in the Lakes) prior to 1700 the sheep were called Erdwyck so we named our gorgeous stuffed, door stop sheep, ’ Erdwyck.’ Not a real one but a great fluffy one who actually bleats when you squeeze his ear….lol !
Thanks so much Roy! My brother in the UK has a cat door stop called Colin. lol!! How cute would a fluffy sheep be! :o)
