Anzac Day Australia – 25th April 2011
Excerpt from For The Fallen by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Travel Diary: 10/11/2010
On our drive to Dunkirk, France to catch the ferry back to the UK, we were very keen to visit the area of the Battle of the Somme. By chance, we came across the small village of Serre where we visited the Serre Cemetery No. 2. I saw several Australian soldiers’ graves and many “unknowns”. I don’t know if the overcast and chilly conditions contributed to the emotion that I was feeling, but it was a very sombre experience being there.
