Ramesses the Great – Luxor Temple, Luxor, Egypt.
Featured in All Things Egyptian and All That’s Archaeology
Featured 2nd in the Top 10 of Classic Metal Challenge
One of the two colossal seated statues that flank the entrance pylon of Luxor Temple. It’s size is 46 feet/14meters in height. He wears the royal nemes headdress topped by the Double Crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. The uraeus (rearing cobra-head now lost) surmounts his brow.
Ramesses II is the most famous of the Pharaohs, and there is no doubt that he intended this to be so. In astronomical terms, he is the Jupiter of the Pharaonic system.
Ramesses II (reigned 1279 BCE to 1213 BCE – also known as Ramesses the Great), he was the third Egyptian pharaoh of the Nineteenth dynasty.
