Laurel and Hardy – Ulverston
Featured in Photography North West England and Light Up My Life
The bronze statue immortalising the comedy genius of Laurel and Hardy was unveiled in Ulverston, Cumbria, on 19th April 2009 by comedian Ken Dodd.
Stan Laurel was born at No. 3 Argyle Street, Ulverston on 16th June 1890.
One of my brothers lived in Argyle Street, a few doors from where Stan Laurel was born.
Fundraisers spent 10 years raising £60,000 for the sculpture which was placed outside the Coronation Hall theatre.
The statue was created by artist Graham Ibbeson, who also made the famous Eric Morecambe statue in Morecambe.
In a partnership lasting 31 years, the comedy duo made 106 films spanning the silent era until the 1950s.
Laurel and Hardy made the world laugh. They were the Kings of Comedy!
The World Famous Laurel and Hardy Museum
Years ago we had the privilege of visiting the Laurel and Hardy Museum, where we were able to sit and watch some of their most famous movie classics.

Fantastic sculptures Marilyn – we loved Ulverston and sorry we didn’t see these as we were there in 2007. Ulverston was the administrative centre for Lancashire, North of the Sands as it was known then which covered 300 yrs of my ancestors.
Thanks so much Roy! Ulverston has a special place in my heart, especially when you have family there. :o)
