A very poignant medal – especially on Anzac Day – 25th April. My Grandfather served in WWI in which he sustained severe injuries (he couldn’t speak or hear for nearly a year). It makes me think how lucky I am that he survived and that my Grandmother wasn’t sent one of these medals.
This medal was issued to the widow of a World War I Soldier (Paul Allen).
Familiarly known as a “Dead Man’s Penny” – bearing the soldier’s name and the motto ‘He Died for Freedom and Honour’.

How beautiful and moving, Marilyn. We don’t hear those words as often as we need to. Nicely done! xo
