Ebor Falls

Ebor Falls, New England National Park, New England Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia.

Ebor is a small country town of approximately 100 people, 45 minutes east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way and 1.5 hours west from the coast high on the New England Tablelands.

Just a few minutes walk from Ebor are the Ebor Falls. The Guy Fawkes River meanders along the edge of the township of Ebor and drops over Ebor Falls, a columned basalt rock of 115 metres.

The falls are most spectacular after recent rainfall in the catchment area.

Although not very high, the two part fall presents the visitor with some great views and some interesting walks.

    G’day Marilyn,

The one and only time I was there it was almost bone dry. Lucky you!

You have done a great job with the composition – very well contained.
The exposure has handled the white water well with the shutter speed just fast enough to freeze the falling water patterns beautifully – like lacework.
So refreshing after seeing sooooo many smooth, milky white water shots.
Focus is good and the depth of field ensures clear detail right through the frame.

When were you at Ebor Marilyn? I often go rock climbing there. It’s one of my favourite spots – particularly the lower (taller) falls. If you are ever there after heavy rainfall again, it is well worth descending to below the lower falls. The air displaced by the falling water creates so much wind that it bends over the small trees there.
The jumble of rocks at left-centre in your photo is called ‘the frog’ locally. Next time you’re there see if you can see why. It takes some imagination!
