She is nothing, “won’t you shed another tear!”
She is worthless, “shut up and get me another beer!”
She is ugly, “even uglier when you’re near!”
She is dumb, “I do the thinking over here!”
She is a headache
She is six feet under hate filled words
She is the bloody throat of a strident scream
She is too round, too chubby, too fat
She’s not good enough
She told me she’s a wreck, that she’s nothing like her peer
She said, it’s not worth it, my life is constant fear
She told me that she’s ugly, that she’s rounder than a sphere
She said, I’m not the smartest but it’s all too clear
I said, baby, bang …
On that mirror…
T’ill it tells you…
You’re beautiful…

i love this and everyone is beautiful….so must beyond the image to see that beauty….so many are trapped within that image…they fail to see true beauty….

:) well I like that this subjects matter to you as it does to me. The reality is that in our society we have so much pressure coming for our peers, and even the ones close to us, that we sometimes forget that we are beautiful. Again, thanks for your comment, always appreciated :)

Yea the media has a great hold of power on this as well
they display their perspective of beauty so many think they should recreate themselves to fit the image of their perspectives to be the objective of thier views of beauty

I’ve never been attracted to the typically defined “good looking” types. I’m drawn to people with faces lined with character. And I don’t believe anyone is beautiful who doesn’t have a beautiful heart. Even the prettiest face can be very ugly when it is attached to an ugly heart. Mmm….got me going a bit huh? :)))))))

powerful words…. strong testament. This poem is a great read on this morning… it’s changed the mood of the day for me. :)
I can completely relate to these words. I love to praise other people and I can see the beauty in everyone … except myself. I’ve always been hard on myself and my looks. I didn’t look like anyone in my family growing up and constantly teased about my growing body.
It’s sad but as women we compare ourselves to a certain Accepted vision of what’s beautiful.
You’ve written a Great piece … great thoughts stem from it.. —

I’m glad it had that effect on you. And I guess your statement, shows exactly what I mean by “she is the mirror reflection of their criticism” We are so pressured by what is beautiful that we begin to believe what people make out of us. And it isn’t our fault sometimes, I understand, but ultimately I believe that if we control our inner thoughts, we control our lives :)

i have been describing myself as the ugly lame one to ladies I extolled virtues upon. to people unknown ( how your eyes sparkle…...my what an outstanding picture you are today…) from behind my vacant srcreen in this new world (to me). in time I will get around to reading more work from the people who have already found my musings. yes….... I can relate to this….........I will be abck
