when i speak her name
i hear pure music drift out of my mouth and float on the air
it rolls off my tongue like the swift, but soft, flowing ebb of a stream
and i see
my eyes see
a new picture in front of me
such a simple name opens an entire realm of possibilities and love
a little girl
a little girl runs
skipping, gleeful, through the open field
the spring sun warms her delicate, soft skin
and the gentle breeze grazes her prominent cheek bones
which are dusted with the lightest gatherings of freckles
her laugh is that of a tinkling brook
as it tumbles over pebbles
she spins around with the grace of a dancer
and i’m captured immediately by her infinite beauty and innocence
and her eyes are endless with curiosity and love
as they tie their strings around my heart
then she calls to me
as i watch this scene play before my eyes my heart swells
full of love
a different kind of love
nearly the love of a mother
and i’m at home
i’ve found home in this little girl
in this name
