I have lived near Kennedy Space Center my entire life and have witnessed all but 5 launches over the span of the shuttle program. I have seen the first and I will see the last I have no doubt. My husband works directly on the Space Shuttle as a Quality Inspector. Tonite I was able to get a VIP pass to witness the night launch of STS128 Discovery from KSC. It was a once an a lifetime opportunity for me to see what may be the last night launch, as for those who don’t know the program will be shutting down in 2010. This makes me very sad. But I at least have a little piece of history to carry on with. Enjoy!

Wowee does the ground shake even from a distance ? amazing shot and light

  • Thank you! And yes my house is about 25 miles away from the pad and it shakes enough to knock pictures of the wall and rattle windows! But us locals are used to it!

Your image is fantastic…. I live in Maine but have a cousin at KSC (engineer) and I have seen many launches over the years. Sad that there is an ending in the near future but I was in the surf on the cape when they “Piggy-backed” the first shuttle back from the west coast. A thrill… I cried… I flew low right over us!!!
Another lift off the end of Oct…. I’m trying to get down!!!! That really is a super shot!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • Thank you so much! Yes it is a sight to behold. My husband works on the shuttles so we will be looking for a new job soon! It is sad to see such important history be shelved.
