Jedd got a job on a building site,
the work was hard but the money was right.
He had to hod bricks and planks of wood,
and did all the jobs that a labourer should.
With steel toed boots and safety hat ,
He felt quite safe but looked a prat.
Opening bags of shingle, cement, and sand,
making concrete hed lend a hand.
He shovelled the stuff into a mixer ,
and when it broke he became the fixer.
He also had the job of “the Boy who makes tea”,
They had it at 10 and 12 and 3.
On one of these trips with mugs on a tray,
he didnt see the rake which in his path lay.
To stand on a rake you might think quite daft,
but down went the forks and up came the shaft.
It came as a shock to the tea carrying Jedd,
But the shaft it whacked him square on the head.
Down into a trench poor Jedd was floored,
Just as a load of concrete was poured.
He was knocked out unconcious, did not bat an eye,
Covered up with cement that was starting to dry.
The builders were thirsty , where could he be,
it was getting on now almost half past 3.
Nobody has seen him from this day to that ,
No sign of his boots , no sign of his hat .
He really loved that job of making cement,
how unfortunate now that hes a pavement.
