Nothing Will Ever Dim the Beauty of the Light You Continue to Shine Upon Us: You Are Infinite, As Is Our Love by

RB member Celena’s, aka, Naylor, son, Austin, aged15, was involved in a car accident on the 11th of September. The driver of the other car was travelling at a high rate of speed. Austin died at 12:40, 9/11/10. The following link will lead you to Celena’s letter to the duty officer, who remained by Austin’s side in his last moments:
Sincerely, Celena D.

It is more than just a “thank you” in verse, however. It is a statement of the Celena’s courage, and the beauty of a soul who takes the time to be grateful in the midst of a suffering for which I have no language. My friend, as Austin continues to light the way for his loved ones, so you set a shining example for all of us. Thank you for the honor of allowing me to pay tribute to your son and to you. I do hope that you find this a proper way to remember, Austin, his essence, his spirit, his infinite, as you beckon us to do in the closing lines of your work.

I came rather late to poetry and even later to photography. I have graduate degrees in philosophy. I realized sometime ago that nearly all of my work makes some sort of implicit argument, and it often makes rather esoteric references to philosophy. Sorry: not trying to be turgid. It’s what I know, and it what Pan whispers into my ear.

You may find my newer, more formal photography at: http://rbgphoto-rusty.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Rusty

Beautiful tribute Rusty. The image is angelic and friendly to the soul. I had not heard this news but then again I am not on rb for longer than 10mins most days. I will have a read of Celena’s letter. Good on you for posting this.

  • Thanks, my friend. I only became aware of this today, when she posted her piece, as I have often been AWOL (All in my fucking head, chasing a tail that does not exist, and being pissed that I can’t catch it.) in the past month, especially. Your endorsement of the image is reassuring. Although, after fretting for a couple of hours, once in context, I could choose nothing else. Be well, my friend

Thank you seems like not enough to express what this means to me …. The fact that you took the time to honor my son and myself like this during YOUR time of hurt shows the beauty of your soul as well… ((((((((((((((HUG))))))))))))))))) Thank you

  • In theory, I understand that we all live in relatively isolated mental worlds, in which suffering is relative. My dear, my situation is impertinent when it comes to offering this ever so small token, in spite of it having derived from the most expansive aspect of my Being. We are forced to face our own insignificance in the face of situations such as this.
I will never be able to express all that I have learned from you today. I am humbled and honored that you allowed me the only media I know to communicate across a barrier I cannot comprehend. May your spirit continue to stand as a rock, in the light of your infinite love. You have amazed me, and many others besides.
That ((((((((HUG))))))))), the apotheosis of yourr spirit, is something that made me smile with each b-mail exchanged. When I saw, Naylor, I knew that I had a hug. This is an entirely unique gesture. I have NEVER seen anyone else do this in my life. You are a beautiful soul. Love, Me

lol… maybe go for a long walk and forget about philosophy for a while? :-)

  • Alas, I’m awaiting a knee replacement. You know I’m going to walk the freaking entire country once I have my bionic joint. Until then, my photography will suffice. Besides, I’m writing something, which is really a lot of fun, in addition to being cathartic. Stay tuned, folks.

This image is a tribute in itself, Rusty and Naylor’s poem not only a message of gratitude to the officer who remained with her son, but also a tribute to her own faith and beautiful heart. Such grief is almost impossible to bear, but perhaps it is made just a bit more bearable when shared with and by people like you whose heart shines from this image. Touching, inspiring and very beautiful, my friend xox

  • I’m not the only shining heart, here, as you well know. Thank you for the kind words and everything else.
Teilhard de Chardin, I see. Were you aware that MH began as in the Catholic Seminary? More later.
