Freedom Always Comes With Strings by

Freedom is always mitigated by the strings of necessity
They dictate the contingencies of the world into which we are thrown and that bind us and place us in the moment of decision
Thus, we are compelled to the freedom to transform contingency into meaning.

About Rusty Gentry

I came rather late to poetry and even later to photography. I have graduate degrees in philosophy. I realized sometime ago that nearly all of my work makes some sort of implicit argument, and it often makes rather esoteric references to philosophy. Sorry: not trying to be turgid. It’s what I know, and it what Pan whispers into my ear.

You may find my newer, more formal photography at: http://rbgphoto-rusty.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Rusty

    fabulous colors!! heavenly feel.

  • Thank you, Lisa Beth. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to just be able to take off and fly into the blue in such a way. Of course, the string is necessary, least we all our hubris to get the best of us and turn out like Icarus. Cheers, Rusty

Once again, an amazing shot. And Freedom is ours if we allow it – which we both have.
    As always,
    MOM

  • Freedom is my secret name, the name of my soul. It simply takes a certain fortitude and courage to allow it to fully manifest itself. Someone asked me last week why I was letting my hair get so long. “Because I’m 40, I’m free, & it doesn’t hurt anyone else.” I could have just said, ‘Because I want to, take your mask off. I can’t hear your prevarications clearly enough.’ The query wasn’t motivated by curiosity, but by that ‘Oh, he’s just being freaky, again,’ attitude people often take with me. “I told you I was freaky, superfreaky. I’m a superfreaky dude, with a penchant for self-entertaining digression.”
