Red Elephants of Tsavo by

Went for safari to Tsavo East & West National Park in Kenya, East Africa. Saw these magnificent creatures. This particular family group literally sauntered past our jeep. The sheer size & gentle power of these beasts was impressive in itself. What made them particularly memorable was their ‘redness’ from dusting themselves with the red Tsavo dirt.

Oh that takes me back! I remember the red soil so vividly in Tsavo East and around Voi. If not for the animals, I remember it looking so much like Central Australia. I was in Tsavo West a couple of years later but can only recall the vivid green of the woodlands. The drought had broken by then. Love the photo. It’s beautifully composed.

  • It is a fantastic & very unique environment. And that red soil gets everywhere. Was dusting it off months later back in London! lol

Thank you very much for your kind comments too!
