This is where you used to sit with me
The echoes of your voice hang in the air
This burden that you left me with
Is more than I can bear

My heart is barely beating
And I am barely breathing

lyrics from one of my songs
Best Enlarged

For this shot, I wanted a thick, smoky texture over the glass, so I took an old ziploc bag, and pulled it in several directions to stretch it out and lightly warp it. Then I placed the piece of plastic over the lens…voila! Instant vintage/texture. [more info. below]

It seems to be a night focused on the beat of hearts. Provoking capture and comment. I don’t know the song.

  • It’s a song that I wrote some years ago. ;)

A photo with many possible stories/interpretations and quite moody if not dire, and sensitive lyrics, Birgitta. Compels me to look again to discern the figure; reread your song. Oy, you evoke strong emotions here!

  • Thanks so much, Jan, for taking the time to view this and leave your thoughts. :) xo

The second I saw this I said this in my mind “Looks like Birgittas work” and I was right, I know your beautiful style too well and this image is a stunner, well done, beautiful work!

  • Hey, I actually thought of you when I was working on this! Even though it’s totally my style, I know your style is much along the same lines. I couldn’t help but to think of you too. :) I was hanging out with Josh a few days ago (we go back about six years) in this abandoned warehouse, and when I came into this room and saw the shattered glass all over the floor, and that window streaming in light- I saw the whole thing come together in my mind. Josh is a good sport to tolerate my demands! (“Okay, now slump down a little bit more…ok- put your hands there, no…there…okay…”) And so on and so on..heheh..

Haha I bet he loves helping you though. I would say out work and minds are linked on the same wave. x

  • I definitely would agree. I knew that when I first viewed your work. By the way, I added a bit of info up there (just now) at the top, explaining how I got this thick texture over the glass. Also, this is a composite of two separate images- they’re both mine. Josh, in the room with shattered glass, and my living room window. (I layered my window over Josh in two separate layers in Photoshop, then erased the glass panes at a light opacity so Josh bled through.) And yes, Josh is always up for being my model. I buy him lunch and his &^% is mine for the next few hours…heheh..

You write songs too! Do you perform as well? Great work, very moody image!

  • Thanks, Annie. :) Actually, I play the piano and acoustic guitar, and sing. (And yes, write songs.) I don’t perform anywhere, except in my room- ha, but I’m thinking about making a Youtube video for all of you guys soon- a dedication of sorts to all of you here. Only Ravinder (up there) has actually heard me sing, but it’s in the works. ;)

Well done – love how you created this one. You’re so very talented Birgitta you should upload one of those songs if you can .. I’d love to hear one as i’m sure others would too!
    Love Colleen2012

  • You know, I started a recording the other day, but my voice was shot. I’ll try again soon. ;) I owe Billyboy a song and it’s a shame I don’t drink any more because there would be some serious blackmail material the next day- trust me!

I love that you need to look deeper to see the figure, and when you do you also see so much more! Inspired and inspiring work, Ḃḭṙḡḭṫṫä ∞!!! Love the way you’ve added mood with the plastic too!

  • Hey, thanks, Mel. Well, it’s far from a “rig”…heheh..but I enjoy the challenge of taking a crappy 4 MP (dinosaur) camera like the Canon G3 (do you remember that thing?!) and a ziploc bag and try to make something artsistic. (Shooting with it pushes me to be more creative I think.)

    just so moving……………I think I love him…x

  • He’s not hard to love. :)

We met six years ago when my brother brought him over. (My brother was looking for nerve pills, and back then I had plenty.) Josh was fresh out of a foster home. His mom was murdered by her boyfriend when he was seven, and his Dad died seven years later. He was tossed from one home to the next- his story is truly heartbreaking. At the time, I was caught in the clutches of my own tragedy, having lost my two girls, and so that night, we traded horror stories, and bonded. :) He’s one of the most humble, beautiful people I’ve ever known. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes. ;)
