''Reticence'' by Birgitta †

I almost fell over when I crossed in between two buildings (New Year’s Eve) and saw this. It was like something from a movie! I had waited for hours for the shadows to be at their best; my city was like a ghost town with everyone preparing for the New Year. I loved it. :) I had been out shadow-seeking most of the afternoon, working on perspectives and manipulating the light and shadows to the best of my ability, so it was after I had called it a day and decided to go home that I found this.

My only regret was that I only had my Canon G3 with me, and I didn’t have a 10-20 MM (or heck- even a cheapie screw-on super wide!). But, work with what ya got, eh?

    The Exorcist springs to mind!
Hope your head didn’t start to spin!
Another quality capture Birgitta ;o) xx

  • You silly boy. :) Actually, I kind of just stood there with my mouth open. (I have a serious attraction to shadows and so for me, this was like a Rembrandt or something. Or should I say Munch . ;)

    Not that bad surely!
Munch by name & Munch by nature!
Not Munch else I can say really :o) xx

  • You know, he’s my 3rd favourite artist. (1st is Van Gogh, 2nd is Escher.) I was actually going to replicate “The Scream” using my son. I don’t think I would have been able to pull off what you did though. By the way, if you have that in your port. link me up. I had to comb through 50,000 files the other day to find your WAR shirt! (And if you don’t, you should.) I want to put it under a microscope.

Oh wow, I love it!!! Shadow seeking! That’s the perfect description for the things we do….and what a find! This is mind bogglingly surreal, Birgitta, the way the branches are so soft and dreamy as opposed to the sharpness of the light and chair shadows.

What a fantastic shot, Birgitta – I love the mood and the sway of the tree shadow, the angles of the shadows and the composition of the lamp and chair.

Amazing scene, brilliantly captured. I like the raw honesty of not overprocessing it as well: a relief from most of what I see on RB. I do the same type of shadow hunting as well, and I’ve found that the best shots are usually found the way you have described. Always be patient..wait for the light, and its usually after everyone has gone home to have their evening meal, or before breakfast…the isolated slightly scary feeling of the abandonned city seems to give a heightened awareness of lighting and mood. Very well done.
