"Centrifuge.."

We wanted to send man to the moon.
We did. We wanted to supply man with a
way to communicate through fiber optics.
We did that too. But what happens when the
human counterpart is so reliant on technology,
that it forgets to…be human? Numbers, dates,
appointments all stored in a portable database.
Families forget to interact with each other because
they all have a human counterpart that they can connect
with. Patience is a thing of the past because anything
they want is at their fingertips. Ideas are unoriginal
because they have all been thought of before; typed, dated,
and logged. Welcome to the Butterfly Effect.

Great image! Couldn’t agree more with what you said. It has become a dependance. Really makes me think… Could we survive a colapse? Which goes to say (the ones with the most would be the most affected and the ones with the least would be the survivors.)

Thank you everyone! I’m humbled..
especially because this was the first actual digital oil that I
painted myself, instead of merely converting it over into an oil
with the click of a mouse button. It took hours, but was alot of fun.

Birgitta, it is indeed depressing from my point of view, as George Orwell made his predictions of the way life would be in 1984 he wasn`t that far off the mark, and that was supposedly a horror story in a way. But on the other hand, just as my generation has dealt with the changes of the time, it seems that my daughter`s generation is also adapting. And although I personally think the world is going to hell in a hand basket, my father thought the same thing years ago and we are all still here. I trhink it`s our ability to adapt which is more important than the changes. There`s not lots we can do to stop them as we discover more ways of making life seem easier.

As for your art, it is amazing and so fitting to your text. The eye looks agitated as opposed to relaxed and so you`ve conveyed the sense of being up against an ever increasing dilemma with an ever decreasing recourse to human contact. Your processing skills are amazing, especially if this is the first digtal painting you`ve done. Awesome talent, you!!

absolutely stunning work, Birgitta! i love how you mixed apophysis with corel and photos… this is the first time i’ve ever seen that combination on redbubble…. normally i never see people use apophysis with other programs but i love what you’ve done here…. the colors…. the numbers…. the way the swirls fit in so well with the circular shape of the iris…. simply amazing…

Tell ya what I did Steve. :)
Took a photo of my eye..and painted over it with Corel Painter X.
(Much like an actual oil painting. Took a while..)
Opened it up in CS3.
Opened up a layer of an Apophysis image that I’d been working on.
(Set that blend mode to darken.) Set my eye to lighten. (blend mode)
Adjusted each until the opacities & fill levels were where I wanted them.
Curved & clarified it..jacked up the contrast.
That’s about it. ;)

I agree with you completely. We become so dependent on gadgets, electronics and tech that in some way and for some people being a normal simple person is a hard concept to grasp. This is a splendid artwork that convey your concept beautifuly. A favorite for me w/o a doubt.. (umm where did I store it.. I have to check in my logs…)

Conceptual art has a lot more depth to it than just a pretty image..I like art that makes you think as well and this acieves what you set out to make it….i really like the strength of the colours and the sense of overwhelmingness on the fragile.. the eye as entrance to the soul…does make one wonder….. :)
