"They Said The Sun Would Shine"

“Often it is the most deserving people who cannot help loving those who destroy them.”

-Herman Hesse

I’ve decided that I’m going to enter this (edited today) into a contest next month to try to win a new 10 MP Samsung camera. No, I won’t ask you to go vote for me, or even reveal the name of the other site. (out of respect for RB) But-I will challenge you to come up with an interesting title for this! Titles are very important to me, and I think a strong title sets the stage for presentation, etc. The chosen title will be used for the contest entry & I’ll post a link to your RB page here crediting you with the title regardless of if I win or not. Sound fair? Good. Let the titling begin! And don’t be afraid to be “out there” with your creativity. ;)

Thanks!
-Birgitta

This makes me think of Sindarela. Something that is out of reach and yet the desire is there to be a part of something that is bigger then you? Like “a humble view!”

  • Birgitta replied

Ya know, you’ve got a point. And I know what you mean..I get the
same feeling when I look at this. Thanks for contributing, Sylvia. :)

Louisville holds a special place in my heart. I went to U of L for one year in 1970-71. Didn’t get enough credits to avoid catching up in summer school so I came back to Brussles and got a job. But it was the most amazing year of my life, and the friends I made there and the times I had will never be forgotten. Nothing too grand happened there… saw Colonel Saunders who was the only one who wasn’t boo’d when then vice pres. Spiro Agnew came to town… and I saw Grand Funk Railroad there at the most awesome concert I’d ever been to in my life (and I’ve seen LOTS!).... Don’t know what ever has happened to that town, but it will always be My Old Kentucky Home. That would be my title if it were mine. Hope you nail it!

  • Birgitta replied

Hey Billyboy, that’s good! It puts an interesting spin on it,
seeing how My Old Kentucky Home is pictured as the rolling
bluegrass hills, banjos filling the hollers & the scent of fried chicken
hanging in the air. Yes, I like the twist you gave it! Sad to report-
that it’s far from that and on the map as one of the highest AIDS filled
cities busting at the seams with homeless people & crime.
(so much for that pretty picture!) Thanks for adding your thoughts.
I really like that title. :)

  • Birgitta replied

Wow. You are a human title machine, Van.
(you’re hired!) heheh… I think I like “Reflected Glory” best,
of all of your titles. You’ve got a great imagination. :)

    Mohsen Bayramn...

“Those Shiny Days…” is my first thought, but I know it’s somehow cheap!
I feel something nostalgic about this work…

  • Birgitta replied

Not cheap at all, Mohsen. It’s the thoughts of a busted up
    warehouse, heh. I getcha. ;)

  • SylviaHardy

    SylviaHardy

I’m sorry I can’t help it, “The Glass Slipper!” to follow on with the theme.

  • Birgitta replied

No need to apologize, Sylvia! Add as many as you like. :)
    (I’m a bit of a title junkie..)

  • Birgitta replied

By the way, the neat thing about that title is that you don’t
have to even make mention of Cinderella. People would
automatically make the connection. Clever! :)

  • H M Bascom

This is beautiful work, absolutely beautiful, I could gaze at it for ages….so when you enter it, PLEASE bmail me and tell me where I can vote OK????
    Love it!

  • Birgitta replied

Wendy, I would love to, but this site starts people off as “E”
members, and you can’t vote until you’ve been there a month and
turn bronze. There are some here at RB that are there as well-
    . It’s a tough place! I won 3 cameras there-maxed out..
and left it to join Redbubble. You Aussies have converted me
I tell ya! I’m allowed to try to win a camera again there though, so-
I’m gonna give it a shot. THANK YOU soooo much. Your words
are enough. ;) I like “From The Other Side” more.. :)

  • Birgitta replied

Thanks, Lisa. :) I like the fact that to the other side automatically
follows (mentally) after reading “Breaking Through”. Leave it up to
you to trigger an automatic flow in thought & words. :)

Fabulous image Birgitta and my entry into your little competiton is On the Borderline of the Edge this is taken from a line of the song Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Greenday whose lyrics match this work perfectly. Although Boulevard of Broken Dreams would be an awesome title….hmmm

Check out the lyrics! Hope you like it.

I keep playing with a variation on “How much is that doggy in the window” but in the vein of … What cost that illusion of wealth and prosperity reflected in the window of that poor broken down structure … but alas the right side of my brain is letting me down.

Perhaps you or your group would like to take a stab at it … or not.

Let me add my wishing you good luck in this contest.

I look at this and feel as if I’ve been locked away from society, pushed out, locked up and best forgotten... there is a title in there somewhere! Bring it on…
They threw away the key, but I’m still here, still here watching. Watching, as the battle between us and them goes on and the result of post-modern decay becomes more and more evident than ever before. News from the outside may not be welcomed on the inside but everyday the paper boy brings more. I’m not sure who to believe now, they said the sun would shine today… they showed me hope of a better world, but instead they gave me dispair. I guess the best thing would be to just forget the past and meet me on the other side.

  • Paul Tupman

    Paul Tupman

By the way… I really like this!
If an image can kickstart my mind, conjure stories and crete emotion then it is a real winner with me… your work has always done that. The above is just what popped into my head when I saw this! I’m off to listen to the Dark Side of the Moon now!
