Fire

Hidden in the body of adolescence

Caught in spot-lights, car-lights
stunned

At the houses burning running across
front lawns

Picture photo albums, the archetecture
of fleeting fear

The gentle sea wrecker tow trucks, oil
leaks

Stains on the drive-way

Mouths wide open. Tracing a distance
measure

Of drunk stair-case falling. Shriveled
portraits

Of a wedding dress bereft of the widow.

Drying out the whiskey-shakes

Next-door hidden creases of
intoxication-fuel

Air drafts. Chemical window curtains

The slaughter of caged domesticed
animals-cutting down

Magnetic cypress trees, one hundred
years old

The language of fire-the truly free
element

Is well aware of why and how sparks are
lit.

About BiographyofRed8

“To bread I do not ask to teach me
but only not to lack during every day of life.
I don’t know anything about light, from where
it comes nor where it goes,
I only want the light to light up,
I do not ask to the night
explanations,
I wait for it and it envelops me,
And so you, bread and light
And shadow are”

Pablo Neruda

Fire is not always a clean heat me thinks….
I read this and saw many life stories that did strive and were in the end burnt by …..well maybe the fire of greed, desire, wanting to fit in, the list is endless.
Fire is potently good and potently evil.
Well anyway that is how your words got me fired up
Good to see your work here again :O) xx

  • thank you so much for this comment. Actually you are spot on, the symbol of fire but also the element creates and destroys. And inspires so many! A great comment my friend

    _Tracing a distance measure _
    whilst chasing the elemental
energy—if only but to draw from
its life a single spark—in time
to flee the scene (of the crime)
before the evidence of the burn
has time to sting and squirm in
the womb that births the desire…
    this enigmatic fascination with fire.
Such a vivid portrait of awe and fear indeed. xox
